Resumen:

Nos cuesta hacernos cargo del pesado fardo que supone ser humano, y nos tienta el ilusorio deseo de deshacernos de ese fardo por la vía de un “retorno a los orígenes” prehumanos. Pero deberíamos más bien perseverar en nuestra tarea sisífica, y no tirar el niño por el desagüe al vaciar el agua sucia de la bañera civilizatoria: por eso en este ensayo se explora la polisemia del concepto “civilización”, y se propone una noción deflacionaria de progreso y una idea modesta de civilización.

Abstract:

It is difficult for us to assume the heavy burden of being human. The illusory desire to get rid of this burden by way of a "return to prehuman origins" is a great temptation. But we should rather resist and persevere in our Sisyphean task, and not throw the baby out with the dirty bathwater of civilization. That’s why we explore in this essay the polysemy of the concept "civilization". A deflationary notion of progress is proposed, and a modest idea of civilization.
